Do you have a permit for that "Omm?"

How many times do I have to tell you? No meditating without a license!!!

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, an Essex Buddhist bought a small (half-acre) stand of trees so that he and his friends could go there and meditate for half an hour when the urge struck.

Alas, all is not bliss - you see, the guy forgot to get his meditation license. So The Essex Wildlife Trust (admin@essexwt.org.uk) filed a complaint against him, ostensibly because they thought that his pernicious activities would somehow damage the trees. And some ivy.

It turns out that a new planning permission was needed, to change the woodland's status from "woodland" to "meditational woodland." So one unfortunate soul is delayed on his quest to escape the cycle of death and rebirth - at least until he gets the approval of the district council, Essex council, English Nature and the Essex Wildlife Trust.

It's not clear how the granting of the planning permission will prevent the meditative damage to the flora, but it's necessary nevertheless.

Well, everybody knows that meditating there would disturb the chakra of the flora he's meditating in. Duh. :-)

Actually, between that and some of France's recent actions, Europe seems to be on a "no public display of religion" kick. I'm not trying to place motives to the action (since I'm not there), just pointing out a trend. I have mixed feelings about that, but it's neither here nor there for this post.
