Exhausted!!!

Primarily owing to the psuedo White Nights, I have been sick, and exhausted for the past week. It's light until 11pm, and the sun rises at around 5:30. My room comes equipped with very thin curtains, allowing 97.3% of all the light to pass through. Because of this, I can't sleep at all.

To clarify a bit, I love the dark. I am a night person. I loved it in winter when there was only 6 hours of sun. I thrive in darkness. For example, I can't do homework when it's light outside. It needs to be dark. And I mean dark. We're talkin moonless, Translyvanian, lonely forest near a scary castle dark. I even have a mask that I put over my eyes. With valiant effort, it blocks approximately 46.83% of the light that makes it into my room. It prolongs my sleep by at least an hour, I'm sure. But it's not enough.

Because of this lack of sleep, and me being very busy trying to figure out what I'm doing next year, I've developed an incessant headache. I don't get headaches. When I get rundown, I get a sore throat. That's it. I can't remember the last time I had a headache. And this one is surely as powerful as all the others combined. It's just now, after almost a week solid, starting to go away.

These White Nights, when it doesn't actually get dark, but we have dusk/dawn for about an hour, will undoubtedly kill me. Luckily, the worst of it happens in June. I'll be home then for three weeks. When I come back in July, the days will already start getting longer again. Oh happy day.

In Russia in white nights we have a tradition to put blanket over the window to creat dark, . Try it, it really helps.

That's pretty much what happens while I'm on the grave shift - if I see sunlight, I can't sleep at all. Block out the windows.

Amigo, if you like the dark, then it's going to get so much worse before it gets better.

It's never too late to pick up a drinking habit, it helps make life in Russia more.... predictable.
